WELCOME TO THE MORTLAKE BREWERY COMMUNITY GROUP

Welcome to the new Mortlake Brewery Community Group (MBCG) website designed and built by two of our Mortlake residents. We have decided to relaunch our website to coincide with the next stage of our campaign to ensure the Stag brewery site is developed for the benefit of the community.

This website incorporates our previous campaign website lovemortlake.org.uk and includes lots of information about the work of MBCG over the last few years in response to the proposed re-development of the Brewery. We are keen to encourage as many people as possible to use the website to share their thoughts and ideas for the future of the site.

Alongside Twitter and Facebook as well as mainstream media, we hope to mobilise residents of Mortlake, Barnes and East Sheen and across Richmond more broadly. Everyone who lives or works in our beautiful borough will be affected if the existing scheme goes ahead as proposed. We need to continue to put pressure on Richmond Council, the GLA and the developers to ensure that any future development is truly sustainable and benefits the whole community.

Please contact us if you want to post a blog or a photo and join with us to make your voice heard.

Groundhog Day for the Mortlake Brewery Redevelopment

Groundhog Day for the Mortlake Brewery Redevelopment

The redevelopment of Mortlake Stag Brewery has been delayed yet again after the government has announced last summer that all buildings over 18 metres will require a second means of escape as an aftermath of the Grenfell fire in North Kensington.
As a consequence, Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, will not now be considering the plans for the Mortlake Stag Brewery redevelopment approved by Richmond Council on 19th July.
New drawings and plans will be drawn up and these will need to be re considered by Richmond’s planning committee. This will be  the 4th attempt to secure planning approval for the site since January 2020.

The MBCG objects to the high buildings, density, loss of green space and lack of affordable housing brought by the Stag Brewery redevelopment proposal. Increased traffic in the area is one of the main problems, which will only get worse with proposals for  other schemes in North Sheen (Homebase site in Manor Road), Kew Retail Park and Barnes Hospital which will bring over 3,000 units and 6,000 people living, working and going to school in our area. The MBCG supports the  local Green Party call for an independent assessment of the transport and traffic needs arising from the cumulative impact of these developments.
